What is a knit-along? Knit-alongs are usually held 90 minutes prior to our normal monthly meeting. A small group of interested knitters meets for two or three months to learn a technique or work on a project. Often, the group may provide each other support via e-mail or telephone.

Prior knit-along subjects have been: socks, double-knitting, modular knitting, Medrith Glover's Circumnavigated Cardigan, Lucy Neatby's Radiant Shawl ,  Elizabeth Zimmermann's Baby Surprise Sweater,  Sunburst Slingbag by justonemorerow.com, Chris Bylsma's Crayon Box Jacket and Elizabeth Zimmermann's Ribwarmer.

NEW KNIT-ALONGS START

IN JANUARY & FEBRUARY 2009.

Join us at 12:30 before the January 10th meeting!

PROGRAM/KNIT-ALONG - GSLKG MITTEN CLINIC!

  • Knitters have the choice of 4 patterns, with Specialists available for consultation.
  • Patients should cast on and complete the ribbing before the clinic begins.
  • Susan Matteson (Spunsilver Creations) will have roving available for $6.50/2oz. - contact her to purchase.

Here are the links for the mittens:

http://knittingonthenet.com/patterns/mittensthrummed.htm   (thrummed mitten in the round)
http://www.kategilbert.com/ms_gifted.html   (2-needle mitten with interesting construction - Robyn finished these in an hour)

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nalu-mitts# - fingerless mitts - These have a twisted ribbing and a wave pattern (Nalu is Hawaiian for wave) flows from the ribbing in travelling stitches.   Note: if you're doing the large size, start ribbing with Kbl (knit through back loop) rather than purl (as in the small size).  See them here:  Candy's Nalu Mitts in Dream in Color Smooshy

The Nalu fingerless mitts are a ravelry download, so if anyone wants to do that one and is not yet a member of ravelry, please contact Robyn Schrager rschrager@gmail.com

If you have ideas for future knit-alongs, contact our interim Education VP, Robyn Schrager (rms on ravelry) at the email address listed in your guild directory or via info@stlouisknittersguild.com (refer to "Guild KAL" in your subject line) or bring it up on our Ravelry group!

To find out more about the Guild and its activities, please browse our site by clicking on the menu button on the left. This expands the options. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@stlouisknittersguild.com - be sure to put "guild, knitting or yarn" in your subject line!
